RV park proposed for Fannie Bay

Darwin residents are being invited to have their say on a proposed trial for a recreational vehicle (RV) park at Bundilla Beach at Fannie Bay.

If supported, City of Darwin Council Lord Mayor, Kon Vatskalis says the trial would run throughout the 2023 peak visitor period and see around 20 RVs pull up stumps at Bundilla Beach.

The Lord Mayor said the proposed trial was one way the Council was exploring ideas to develop the local economy, support tourism growth and position Darwin as an attractive tourism destination.

“We want to see increased tourist numbers in Darwin, because we know that tourist spending stimulates the local economy beyond just accommodation and into retail, hospitality, art and creative industries, tours, transport and more,” Mr Vatskalis said.

“Accommodation in Darwin is always in high demand, and options are already booking out for 2023.

“Should the community be supportive of the trial, the next step would be to kick off an expression of interest process to bring a suitable operator on board to run the park,” he said.

The site for the proposed trial is on Council land which is currently being used as a car park. It was chosen following an assessment of locations close to key services and amenities.

The proposed trial aligns to Council’s strategic direction for ‘A smart and prosperous city’.

Members of the community are invited to find out more about the proposed trial and share their thoughts by completing the survey at engage.darwin.nt.gov.au by 3pm Friday 12 May 2023.
