Prison officer charged after allegedly choking female inmate

A 55-year-old senior female Corrective Services NSW officer has been charged after police allege she choked a female inmate at Silverwater correctional facility.

Last month, detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad’s Corrective Services Investigation Unit established Strike Force McInne following a referral from a Silverwater correctional facility after the alleged assault of a female inmate by a senior correctional officer, NSW Police said in a statement released today.

“Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives arrested a 55-year-old woman at a home at Mascot about 8.15am today,” police said.

“She was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with common assault and intentionally choke person without consent.

The woman, who is a senior correctional officer, was granted strict conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on July 26.

The officer has been suspended by Corrective Services NSW.
