Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man was struck and killed by an 80-year-old driver while crossing Childs Road in Lalor last night.
Police say the incident occurred when the 19-year-old victim and his sister were on a pedestrian crossing outside the Lalor North College just before 7.30pm.
The pair had already crossed two lanes and the centre median strip when the man was struck by the west-bound car.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, the Epping man could not be revived and died at the scene.
The driver of the car, an 80-year-old Reservoir man, has been released pending further enquires.
Investigators believe that a number of cars stopped at the scene but left before providing their details and so are appealing to those drivers or passengers to come forward.
