Police hunt for man who ripped necklace from 88-year-old

Victoria police are appealing for public assistance to help identify a man who ripped a gold necklace from the neck of an 88-year-old woman in a Brunswick supermarket.

Fawkner investigators have been told a man approached the woman in a supermarket inside a shopping centre on Sydney Road about 10:30 am on January 30.

“It is believed the man snatched a necklace from the Brunswick woman’s neck before running away towards Sydney Road,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

Police say the 88-year-old victim was not injured in the incident.

Investigators have release images of a man who they believe can assist with their enquiries.

He is believed to be Caucasian in appearance, about 182cm tall (5ft11), and was wearing a red hat, white Nike Air T-shirt, a black wind breaker, light grey shorts and white Asics shoes.

Anyone who identifies the man or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppervic.com.au.
