Police farewell two canine heroes

The NSW Police Force has lost two of its finest.

The NSW Police Dog Unit has announced that two of its retired Police Dogs – Granite and Luger – have passed away.

“It is with a heavy heart that we inform you about the passing this week of two of our retired dogs PD Granite and PD Luger,” the Dog Unit said on Facebook.

The unit said PD Granite was 10 years old and had been the first ever Police dog to serve in the Tweed/Byron area.

“He definately made an inpact during his career and eventually enjoyed his retirement with the handlers extended family down in Newcastle,” the Dog Unit said.

PD Luger was 12 years old and retired in Sydney at the end of 2016.

“He has enjoyed the last four years with his handler and his family. Our thoughts are with the handlers and all their family.”

Our condolences go to the NSW Police Dog Unit, to the former handlers, and to the retirement families of PD Granite and PD Luger – thank you for your loyal service… Australian Seniors News team.
