Police have confiscated the vehicle of a man caught doing 148km/h in a 60km zone last night.
Nunawading Highway Patrol impounded the 21-year-old’s car after the black Subaru sedan was clocked by police on Warrigal Road about 6pm.
“The 21-year-old Bentleigh man had a female passenger with him when police intercepted the vehicle near Chadstone Shopping Centre,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
“The vehicle was impounded for 30 days, at a cost of $878.50
“He is expected to be charged on summons with drive at a speed dangerous, drive in a manner dangerous and exceeding the speed limit.“
Acting Sergeant Vaughan Wright from Nunawading Highway Patrol said they were very lucky to have caught the driver before any carnage was caused.
“We could have easily been attending a double fatality if not worse,” A/Sgt Wright said.
“People need to remember that having your license is a privilege and not a right and we can remove that privilege from drivers who choose to drive recklessly at a ridiculous speed.
“A motor vehicle can easily turn into a weapon when people choose to drive at speeds like this and a fatality changes the lives of everyone involved, including our first responders who have to attend them.”
