A 57-year-old man will face court after allegedly sexually touching a child while at a shopping centre in Sydney’s west last week.
Police say that at about 4pm last Thursday, an 8-year-old girl was shopping with her mother at a shopping centre in Patrick St, Blacktown when a man approached her from behind and allegedly slapped her on the buttocks, before walking away.
Following a public appeal, police arrested a 57-year-old man at Redfern Police Station yesterday afternoon.
He was charged with intentionally sexually touch child under 10 years.
The Waterloo man was refused bail to appear before Central Local Court today.

Investigators are appealing for public assistance after a girl was sexually touched while at a shopping centre in Sydney’s west yesterday.
Police have been told an eight-year-old girl was standing outside a supermarket inside a shopping centre on Patrick Street, Blacktown, about 3.50pm on Thursday, when an unknown man slapped her on the buttocks before walking away.
The incident was reported to officers from Blacktown Police Area Command and an investigation commenced.
As inquiries continue, detectives have released an image of a man (pictured) who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
He is described as being aged in his 40s, between 165cm–175cm tall, of medium build, with tattoos on both arms.
The man is depicted in the image wearing a red cap with a yellow logo, a black shirt and blue denim jeans with red and white sneakers. He was carrying a grey and black backpack and a belt.
