NSW Police dog, Alpha, put the bite on a trio of teenage alleged thieves in Tamworth on Monday.
PD Alpha and his handler were called in after a spate of break-ins at homes in the city on Sunday night.
“About 1.20am, officers attached to Oxley Police District responded to reports of an aggravated break, enter and steal at a home on Dowell Avenue, East Tamworth,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“The report was closely followed by several reports of trespass incidents in the same area.”
“The Dog Unit (PD Alpha) was deployed and commenced patrols of the area.”
A short time later, police received reports a white Corolla sedan had been stolen during a break and enter at a home on North Street, North Tamworth.
“Officers commenced a patrol of the area and observed the vehicle travelling on Jewry Street.”
“A pursuit was initiated and terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.”
Police located the abandoned vehicle a short time later and instigated a patrol of the area with the assistance of PD Alpha.
Thanks to the efforts of PD Alpha and his handler, three boys were located.
“About 4.30am, police located three boys, two aged 14 and a 12-year-old, at a home on Cole Road, West Tamworth,” police said.
They were arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station. All three boys were charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence (two counts), enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
The 12-year-old was also charged with breach of bail. They were refused bail to appear before a children’s court yesterday.
