Pair arrested over Footscray burglaries

Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged two men – aged 59 and 43 – following two alleged aggravated burglaries in Footscray yesterday.

Police say two adjacent apartments were broken into on Eleanor Street at around 4am on Thursday. Once inside, the thieves stole laptops, artwork and jewellery.. Two vehicles were also stolen.

A 59-year-old man was located inside one of the alleged stolen vehicles on Old Geelong Road, West Footscray and was arrested, Victoria Police said in a statement.

The Footscray man was charged with aggravated burglary, theft of motor vehicle, theft and handle stolen goods. He was also charged in relation to a series of alleged aggravated burglaries in Footscray and Sunshine last month.

The second allegedly stolen vehicle was located abandoned outside a house on Eleanor Street.

A 43-year-old man was arrested at a house on Eleanor Street and the other allegedly stolen items were located at the premises.

The Rockbank man was charged with theft of motor vehicle, theft and handle stolen goods.

The pair were directly presented to Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
