A P-plater has had his vehicle seized, and charged with multiple offences after he was caught driving 74km/h above the speed limit on the Bass Highway overnight.
Members of Taskforce Scelus intercepted a blue Ford Falcon XR6 on the Bass Highway at Penguin about 6.50pm on Tuesday, after it was detected travelling at 174km/h in the 100km/h zone.
The driver, a 21-year-old man, allegedly became abusive toward police and was arrested at the scene, Tasmanian Police said in a statement.
He was charged with multiple traffic-related offences including excessive speeding, failing to display P-plates, as well as abusive language to police.
His vehicle was seized for a period of 28 days.
He was bailed to appear in the Burnie Magistrates Court at a later date.
