Man charged with giving Nazi salute

NSW Police have charged a man with displaying a Nazi salute during an event in Newtown yesterday.

Police say that at around 2pm on Saturday, officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command were attending a planned gathering in Newtown.

“During the event, attendees began to engage in an approved march down Victoria Street, Camperdown,” Police said in a statement.

“As the group was marching, a man not associated with the event, stepped in front of the procession and allegedly displayed a Nazi salute and made threatening remarks.”

The 20-year-old man was immediately arrested and taken Newtown Police Station.

He was charged with knowingly display by public act Nazi symbol without excuse and make a gesture in a public place that is a Nazi salute.

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newtown Local Court on January 14th 2025.
