An experienced 62-year-old canyoner has been rescued after falling near Lithgow yesterday.
Police say that at around 3.30pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to Pipeline Canyon, Wolgan Valley, following reports a man had fallen.
“Police were told the 62-year-old man was abseiling when he fell about 4m onto his back,” NSW Police said in a statement today.
“A Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was activated by a member of the group and rescue crews were dispatched, however, the man could not be extracted due to strong winds.”
NSW Ambulance paramedics assisted by officers attached to Police Rescue and the Lithgow Volunteer Rescue Association stabilised the man overnight.
When rescue efforts recommenced at first light this morning, the man was winched to safety by Ambulance Helicopter and flown to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
