New Seniors Card for 60+ rolled out

CanberransĀ aged 60 and older now have access to the benefits of the ACT Seniors Card after the Government lowered the eligibility age from 62 to 60 late last year.

Minister for Seniors and Veterans, Gordon Ramsay said from July 1 eligible Canberrans aged 60 and over could now apply for theĀ card online or in person at the Council of the Ageing (COTA) ACT office.

“Applying online is another way olderĀ Canberrans can gain access to the Seniors Card benefits and for many this willĀ be a more convenient and accessible way to apply,” Minister Ramsay said.

“If you can’t apply online, you can continueĀ to apply in-person or over the phone, and support will be available for peopleĀ if they need it.

“Making the Seniors Card application processĀ easier is part of our commitment to ensure older Canberrans are acknowledged,Ā supported, valued and rewarded for everything they have contributed to ourĀ community.”

The ACT Seniors Card provides access to aĀ range of discounts, special offers and transport concessions across the ACT andĀ Ā interstate.

“ACT Seniors Card holders are able to obtainĀ discounts on goods and services provided by over 300 Canberra businesses toĀ help make their discretionary funds stretch further,” said COTA ACT chief executive officer, Jenny Mobbs.

“COTA ACT very much welcomes an on-lineĀ application process for the very popular ACT Seniors Card,” she said.

“COTA ACT is available during office hours toĀ assist applicants should they not have access to a computer and can be visitedĀ at the Hughes Community Centre or contacted by telephone onĀ 6282 3777.”

There are eligibility requirements for an ACTĀ Seniors Card – you must be a permanent resident of the ACT and not be in paidĀ employment for more than 20 hours per week.

ACT Seniors Cards are combined with TransportĀ Canberra MyWay cards, with one card allowing for public transport access, and SeniorsĀ Card discounts.

Mr Ramsay said customers applying online will be able to useĀ the electronic application form receipt for transport concessions until theirĀ Seniors Card arrives in the mail.

Visit the ACT Seniors Card website www.actseniorscard.org.au for full details, including access to the ACT Seniors Card Discount Directory.
