New Perth Zoo cafe precinct opens

Perth Zoo’s brand new cafĂ© precinct, playground and function centre has officially opened for business today.

WA Premier, Roger Cook says the new state-of-the-art facilities will transform how visitors enjoy Perth Zoo, creating a hive of activity in the heart of South Perth.

“For many decades, Perth Zoo has provided Western Australians with wonderful memories,” said Mr Cook.

“The opening of these impressive new cafĂ©, playground and function facilities will improve visitors’ experience of the Zoo and ensure it continues to be a place for the community to connect.

“Their official launch ahead of Perth Zoo’s 125th birthday is an important milestone for the Perth Zoo Master Plan, bringing the first suite of projects to life.

“Under the Master Plan, which has been supported by a $51 million investment from the Cook Government, our iconic Zoo will be able to modernise and deliver even better experiences for visitors, while ensuring stronger conservation outcomes for threatened species.”

Nestled in the middle of the Zoo, the café precinct contains three outlets for visitors, including dine-in and takeaway, as well as a coffee and wine bar. All three outlets are situated next to the new expansive playground.

Guests can enjoy a sit-down meal at ‘Habitat’, pick up grab-and-go food and drink items from ‘Wagtails’, or purchase barista-made coffee or an alcoholic beverage from ‘Distill and Brew’.

“With these incredible new facilities now open to the public, it has never been a better time to enjoy Perth Zoo,” said Environment Minister, Reece Whitby.

“The warmer weather is the perfect opportunity for families to come down to the Zoo and enjoy a drink or a meal on the deck, while watching the kids enjoying Perth’s premier playspace.”

The grand opening coincides with Perth Zoo’s monumental 125th birthday, which is being celebrated with the Wild Lights lantern display, Wild About Babies sculptures, and a community birthday party on 14 and 15 October.
