New COVID case in Tasmania

Tasmania has recorded its first new coronavirus case in three weeks.

Premier Peter Gutwein (pictured) said a man in his 60s tested positive while in the North-West Regional Hospital in Burnie.

The man had reportedly been in Melbourne for medical treatment before being transported back to Tasmania.

The Premier said the man had previously tested negative to coronavirus, before later recording a positive test.

“I’m advised that the man was admitted [to hospital] under all appropriate infection control protocols,” Mr Gutwein said.

“We will see cases from time to time, but it’s how we respond that matters.”

He said the man “bears no risk to any other patient or any other Tasmanian”.
