A 41-year-old Meringandan West man has been fined $1,854 for speeding at 110km/h in a 60km/h speed zone on a motorcycle at North Toowoomba.
It is alleged Toowoomba highway patrol officers spotted the motorcyclist speeding along Rutherford Street shortly before 7:30pm while they were conducting proactive patrols on January 5th.
“It is further alleged the rider said he had no idea he was travelling at that speed,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
In 2024, 303 lives were lost on QLD roads. 77 of those fatalities were motorcyclists.
The fatal five, including speeding, continue to be leading causes of fatal crashes, said Toowoomba Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Kim Hill.
“Each live lost is one too many, travelling at excessive speeds is inexcusable and has been proven to risk your life and the lives of those around you,” said Snr Sgt Hill.
“We will continue to do everything we can to improve road safety and encourage motorists to join us in making road safety a key priority.
“It’s important to remember that you aren’t invincible, and accidents can happen to anyone. Whenever you get behind the wheel consider the fatal five and make it home safe.”
