More Gold Coast volunteer drivers needed

Before retiring, Terry Kelly and his wife Wendy, volunteered with Volunteering Gold Coast (VGC) Transport Services for 10 years. The power couple provided a high standard of care to VGC’s clients and facilitating Shopping Club trips and Social Outings.

“Volunteering at VGC allowed me to get out and about, meet some amazing people and help many people in the community. It was such a rewarding experience that I’ll never forget,” said Terry.

Volunteer drivers are an invaluable part to Volunteering Gold Coast Transport Services in providing safe, affordable and reliable community transport to the Gold Coast community.

Community Transport services are vital for residents over 65, NDIS participants and Under 65 residents living with a disability to travel to appointments, shopping, visit friends and family and engage with the broader community.

“Thanks to our Volunteer Drivers, we were able to provide over 65,000 trips for our clients last year, and were able to continue providing a reduced amount of transport and other services during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Mrs Jo Jones, Volunteering Gold Coast General Manager – Community Services.

VGC is in need of more volunteer drivers to join the team to help make a difference in the community.

“As the demand for community transport continues to rise, assistance from volunteer drivers is highly appreciated so we can continue the work that we do. A volunteer driver will help clients travel to appointments, shopping and social outings,” said Jo.

“This is a great opportunity for someone to meet new people, explore the Gold Coast and give back to the community.” Said Jo.
