The Queensland Government will partner with a local medicine company to build a $1.1 million tablet production and coating facility at its Northgate factory.
Acting Premier and Minister for State Development, Steven Miles said the funding announced under the government’s Advance Queensland Industry Attraction Fund was part of the Queensland Government’s economic recovery strategy.
“This will create dozens of jobs once it’s up and running in the next few months,” he said.
“Metagenics has been producing health products here in Queensland for 35 years and this funding will help them expand – building a state-of-the-art tablet coating production line to create local jobs.
“The vitamin, minerals and supplements sector has grown by $2 billion over the past five years.
“This is a growth industry. We want to partner with the private sector to tap into this huge potential for growth in this industry in years to come.”
Member for Nudgee, Leanne Linard said the company currently employs 365 staff across Australia and New Zealand, with 80% of their workforce based in Queensland.
“Assisting Metagenics to expand its product lines will improve their Queensland production capabilities supporting future local manufacturing jobs,” Ms Linard said.
“It’s estimated close to 24 jobs will be created upon completion of this expansion.
“Our government will continue to back local companies as we continue our economic recovery and create jobs.”
Metagenics manufactures and distributes market-leading brands such as Inner Health, Ethical Nutrients and Metagenics.
Metagenics managing director, Paula Hann said the company was grateful for the support from the Queensland Government and this funding will help them reinforce their quality position and secure their supply lines.
“Currently our operation primarily uses external contract manufacturers for our tableted product, and this funding will help us to remove that reliance and decrease our company’s risk,” Ms Hann said.
“It will give us more control over our operations and bring more manufacturing capabilities to Queensland.”
Metagenics estimates the expansion will be complete in early April 2021.
