Maslin Beach human bone search ends

Police have concluded a search of Maslin Beach that was sparked by the discovery of human bones on the stretch of sand on Tuesday night.

Police say a member of the public contacted them yesterday morning after locating a bone on Tuesday evening while walking on the beach.

“With the assistance of Forensic Science SA, the bone has since been identified as possibly a human bone, specifically a forearm bone,” SA Police said in a statement.

“Southern District police conducted a preliminary search yesterday and a second bone was located about 50m from where the first bone was found. Following analysis, this is also believed to be human, specifically a rib bone.

“Today, STAR Group officers coordinated an extensive search of the area where the bones were located with the assistance of Water Operations Unit, Forensic Science and SES volunteers to check if there is any other evidence that can assist the investigation.”

Police say no further items of significance were located after searching about a kilometre of beach and the search has now concluded.

Police urge anyone who discovers any bones along the southern beaches particularly in the areas of Maslin Beach, Seaford, Moana, Southport and Port Noarlunga to please contact police immediately on 131 444.

“Forensic Services will conduct an extensive examination of the bones which is expected to take several days,” SA Police said.

Police are reviewing all existing missing persons cases.

Anyone with information on the incident or any missing persons is asked to please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
