Police are appealing for public assistance as part of ongoing investigations into a violent incident in Moorooka on Tuesday night where a 56-year-old man was seriously assaulted and had his car stolen.
Police say the man parked his white Toyota Echo on Muriel Avenue near Gladstone Street around 10.30pm while he waited to collect his daughter from a nearby address.
“An unknown man opened the driver’s side door and demanded he exit the vehicle before punching him in the face,” Queensland Police said in a statement today.
“A struggle ensued between the pair during which the 56-year-old man was forcibly pulled from the car and put in a choke hold, causing him to lose consciousness and fall on the road.
“The man then entered the vehicle and fled as the victim woke up and unsuccessfully tried to stop him leaving, falling again to the ground from the moving car.
“He sustained cuts and swelling to his face as a result of the attack.”
The man’s car was found on fire in bushland off Beaudesert Road at Parkinson around 5am on Wednesday morning.
“The fire was quickly brought under control however the car was destroyed,” QPS said.
Detectives have released a COMFIT image of the man believed to be linked to the incident.
The man is described as being aged in his 20s with a fair complexion, slim build, clean shaven with light brown shaggy hair covering his ears. He was wearing a t-shirt and shorts.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have additional CCTV or dashcam of the vehicle (Qld registration 380 GQO) or any further information regarding the man to come forward.
