Man drowns at Nobbys Beach

A man in his 60s has drowned while swimming at a Newcastle beach earlier today.

Emergency services were called to Nobbys Beach at Newcastle just before 8am this morning, following reports a man was unconscious in the water.

Lifeguards pulled the man from the water and commenced CPR until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The man is yet to be formally identified; however, is believed to be aged in his 60s.

He was taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he later died.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District attended and have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
