63-year-old man’s throat cut in Christmas Eve domestic dispute

A man faced court yesterday charged with the attempted murder of a 63-year-old man following a domestic-related incident at Wollongong on Christmas Eve.

Police say that at about 9.20pm on Thursday, a 63-year-old man was at his Mathews Street home, when he was confronted in the bedroom by the alleged offender, who was known to him.

“It’s alleged the younger man, armed with a knife, placed the older man in a headlock and cut his throat,” NSW Police said in a statement.

The injured man was able to fight him off and break free before driving himself to Wollongong Hospital where police were notified. Police say his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

“Officers from Wollongong Police District commenced inquiries and attended a home on Corrimal Street where the 31-year-old man was arrested,” NSW Police said.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder (DV).

The man has been refused bail and appeared at Wollongong Local Court yesterday.
