Man charged over Young assault

A man has been charged over an assault in the NSW Hume region in which police say a 63-year-old man was allegedly assaulted with a metal pole.

Police say that at around 1.20am this morning, emergency services were called to a unit complex on Berthong Street in Young, following reports of an assault.

Officers were told two men – aged 63 and 34 – were involved in a verbal altercation.

“The older man walked away, before the younger man followed him and allegedly threatened him and assaulted him with a metal pole,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The 63-year-old sustained a deep laceration to his hand, as well as bruising to his arm. He was taken to Young District Hospital for treatment.”

Officers attached to The Hume Police District arrested the 34-year-old man at the scene. He was taken to Young Police Station, where Police allege he intimidated and threatened a female constable.

The man from Young was charged with reckless wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, malicious damage, and intimidate police.

He appeared in Young Local Court today, where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear in the same court on November 12.
