Man charged over assault of 65-year-old man in Goodna carpark

Ipswich detectives have charged a 39-year-old Sunnybank Hills man following investigations into an alleged serious assault on a 65-year-old man on Thursday.

Police allege that at around 8:20pm, after an verbal altercation, the older man was approached and assaulted by a man in the carpark of a shopping centre on Smith Street, Goodna.

The 65-year-old man sustained serious head injuries and was transported to hospital.

“The other man left the scene, however following extensive inquiries by investigators over a 24-hour period, he was identified and arrested at a Sunnybank Hills address yesterday, March 15,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

The 39-year-old Sunnybank Hills man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and possessing dangerous drugs.

He has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court today.
