A 51-year-old man has faced court today on firearms charges after allegedly shooting at a jet ski rider on the Murray River yesterday afternoon.
“Officers from Murray River Police District responded to reports of shots fired on the Murray River near Moama about 4pm on Sunday,” NSW Police said in a statement today.
Police were told at least two shots were fired in the direction of a 23-year-old man, who was riding a jet ski, and appeared to have come from a nearby houseboat.
Following inquiries, police executed crime scene warrants at a houseboat and a home on Goldsborough Road, Moama.
During the searches, officers seized three firearms, including a shotgun which was located under a lounge chair on the houseboat, ammunition and cannabis.
“A 51-year-old man, who holds a firearms licence in Victoria, was arrested at the scene and taken to Deniliquin Police Station,” NSW Police said.
“He was charged with fire firearm in or near public place, not keep firearm safely-not prohibited firearm, and holder of Category A or B licence not have approved storage.”
The man was formally refused bail at Wagga Wagga Local Court today to re-appear at the same court on January 2.
