Man, 65, charged over alleged approach to child

A 65-year-old man has been charged after a child was allegedly approached in Sydney’s south-west yesterday.

Police say that at around 11.40am on Saturday, a man was seen filming children participating in swimming lessons at a leisure centre on Broomfield Street, Cabramatta.

“The children were unknown to the man,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The man then approached a girl, aged four, and allegedly attempted to touch her on the head. An off-duty police officer, who was at the leisure centre, spoke to the man, who then left the scene.

“The officer informed Fairfield City Police Area Command, who began inquiries.”

A 65-year-old man attended Cabramatta Police Station at around 6pm, where he was arrested.

He was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal), and use carriage service to menace/harass/offend.

He was given conditional bail and will appear at Liverpool Local Court on June 9.
