Man, 62, charged over $800,000 drug seizure

A 62-year-old Sydney man is one of four people charged over the seizure of 5kg of methylamphetamine (ice), $54,000 cash and a haul of designer goods, following an investigation into illicit drug supply across Sydney’s south west.

As a result of Operation Trident, an ongoing South West Metropolitan Region Operation targeting mid-level crime, officers from Wetherill Park Region Enforcement Squad (RES) established Strike Force Ouse in September this year to investigate the activities of a criminal syndicate involved in the supply of prohibited drugs – mainly methylamphetamine (ice) and heroin.

Following extensive investigations, Wetherill Park RES, with assistance from South West Metropolitan Operations Support Group (OSG), executed three search warrants at homes at Smithfield and Oran Park from yesterday morning.

During the search, officers seized 5kg of ice, with an estimated potential street value of $800,000.

Prohibited drugs including cannabis and a large amount of unidentified white powder were also seized.

Investigators also seized $54,000 cash, ammunition, an extendable baton, mobile phones and a large number of designer clothing, merchandise and jewellery.

A BMW valued at $210,000, a Toyota Corolla valued at $40,000, a jet ski and a quad bike were also seized.

All items will undergo further examination.

A 31-year-old woman and three men – aged 30, 36 and 62 – were arrested during the operation and taken to Fairfield Police Station where they were charged with a range of drug and related offences.

Police will allege in court that the group were involved in a criminal syndicate allegedly supplying prohibited drugs across Sydney’s south west.

All three were refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today.

Anyone with information about the supply of prohibited drugs is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages
