Man, 59, charged over allegedly ramming police car

Queensland Police have charged a 59-year-old man who they allege rammed a police vehicle while behind the wheel as a disqualified driver.

Northern Territory Police apprehended the man on a Queensland arrest warrant for the alleged incident that took place on December 12 last year.

He was extradited to Queensland today. In shocking dashcam footage, a ute is seen being pulled over by Police before the driver then reverses rapidly into the front of the vehicle. The driver then flees the scene.

“The 59-year-old, upon return to Maroochydore Watch House, was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, serious assault police, evade police, enter premises and commit indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, seven counts of drive whilst license disqualified and four counts of stealing,” Police said in a statement.

He was due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.

Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho, Officer in Charge of Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol said, “This should stand as a warning to anyone willing to commit offences in our community that we will hunt you down and bring you back to this state and hold you accountable for your actions.”
