Man, 55, shot in Walloon siege

A 55-year-old man has been shot by police following a siege at Walloon.

Police attended a rural property on Kingsley Street at around 2.50am yesterday morning where the man, 55, held police at bay, allegedly firing shots at officers from a shed on the property.

As police attempted negotiations, an emergency situation was declared at 8.45am after the armed man fired several shots toward attending police.

The area declared included, Haigslea Amberley Road, Bell Street, Kingsley Street, Kinmouth Street, Station Lane, Short Street and Stocks Lane.

Police say the man fired directly at officers at around 11.35am. Police returned fire, shooting the armed man. He was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he underwent surgery.

The Ethical Standards Command is investigating with the assistance of the Crime and Corruption Commission.
