Man, 53, charged over explosives haul

Detectives have charged a 53-year-old man after the discovery of a large quantity of materials used to manufacture explosives during a search in Flaggy Creek.

East Gippsland Crime Investigation Unit detectives attended the Flaggy Creek Road address on February 10 after receiving information that an occupant at the address was purchasing the dangerous materials.

“Investigators executed a search warrant at the address where they located a large quantity of chemical substances and other materials related to the manufacture of explosive substances,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“The Arson and Explosives Squad and a Victoria Police Forensic Services Centre Arson Chemist attended the scene with East Gippsland CIU members again on 11 February where a full search of the property was conducted.”

A 53-year-old Flaggy Creek man was arrested and has been charged with multiple counts of possess prescribed precursor chemical as well as firearms and weapons related offences.

He has been remanded to face Sale Magistrate’s Court today.
