Man, 53, arrested over jogger attack

40-year-old Melbourne man, Paul Morshuk, suffered significant injuries in the October 30 attack.

A 53-year-old man has been arrested following a cowardly attack on a jogger in Melbourne last month.

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives say 40-year-old Melbourne man, Paul Morshuk (pictured), was exercising in Birrarung Marr on the afternoon of Friday, October 30, when he was allegedly struck to the back of the head causing him to lose consciousness and fall to the ground.

Mr Morshuk told 7News he was talking to a friend on the phone when he was struck from behind by a stranger.

“All I know is that I felt this big thump to the head and then it was just a blackout to me,” he told 7News after the attack.

“I woke up in pain everywhere.”

The 40-year-old said he was repeatedly kicked as he laid on the ground until a Good Samaritan stepped in and attempted to stop the assault.

His attacker then fled to Batman Avenue, leaving Mr Morshuk unconscious on the ground.

Mr Morshuk suffered a fractured skull, multiple lacerations and bruising in the attack.

Detectives this week arrested a 53-year-old man of no fixed address. He was charged with intentionally and recklessly cause injury, assault with weapon and unlawful assault.

The man was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on December 2.
