A Queensland Police crew were lucky to escape serious injury after a wheel struck their police vehicle on a Gold Coast highway last night.
Officers are currently trying to locate the driver of a vehicle after a wheel from a light truck or trailer came loose and struck the windscreen of the police van at around 11.45pm on Monday night.
“The police van with two officers inside was driving northbound on the M1 when at Helensvale a wheel has struck the windscreen causing substantial damage,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
“Both officers were showered with glass but suffered no injuries from the incident.”
Police believe it is possible that the driver may be unaware that the wheel has come loose.
Anyone who may have witnessed or have dashcam of the incident is urged to contact police.
