Local contractor wins $27m apartment build

Northern Territory residential developer, Greenspace Group has been awarded the contract to construct the new John Stokes Square Residential Precinct, which includes 78 new public housing apartments in Nightcliff.

Member for Nightcliff, Natasha Fyles said the contract, worth just over $27.4 million, will create around 100 jobs for Territory workers as part of a multi-faceted development project at the John Stokes site.

“The awarding of this tender to Greenspace Group is another big milestone for this significant job creating project for the electorate of Nightcliff,” Ms Fyles said.

“The social housing which previously sat on this site needed upgrading for quite some time, and I look forward to construction commencing soon on these purpose-built apartments and NGO offices.”

The public housing redevelopment includes:

  • Three new, purpose-built, four-story housing accommodation blocks;
  • 66 one bedroom and 12 two bedroom apartments;
  • Space for non-government organisation on the ground floor and internal parking with storage spaces;
  • Communal breakout areas within each level in each unit block; and
  • Communal garden.

A 2016 election promise of the Territory Labor Government, the redevelopment commenced earlier this year with construction commencing on a 24-hour police station.

The John Stokes Square Redevelopment will also incorporates a pedestrian-friendly green space and link between Nightcliff Village and Nightcliff Shopping Centre.

“I’m proud to be the local member delivering 100 jobs for Territorians to build 78 adaptable social housing apartments in a central location in Nightcliff, including for seniors and people living with disabilities,” Ms Fyles said.
