Kiama Council has completed an upgrade of Jamberoo Sporting Precinct with the opening of the new amenities building at Keith Irvine Oval this week.
Director Engineering and Works, Mike Dowd said the amenities included change rooms, showers and toilets – including an accessible toilet – kiosk, water bubbler and store room.
“This new facility is a welcome addition to Keith Irvine Oval, where previously sports teams, as well as officials and spectators, had to walk to the nearby Kevin Walsh Oval to get changed or use the toilet,” Mr Dowd said.
“Council has also installed new training lights at the ground, upgraded the car park and improved the access road.”
The opening of the Keith Irvine Oval amenities marks the completion of Council’s extensive upgrades to the Jamberoo Sporting Precinct, which started in 2018.
The $1.86 million worth of upgrades includes:
- Jamberoo Youth Hall – rebuilding and strengthening structural walls, upgrading stormwater drainage, refurbishing the kitchen and amenities.
- Kevin Walsh Oval – refurbishment of amenities to provide renovated change rooms, a new canteen, public toilets (including accessible toilets with an adult change table), new fencing, seating and upgraded drainage.
- Jamberoo Croquet Club – upgraded drainage.
- Keith Irvine Oval – new amenities, new sports field lighting, car park and access road upgrade.
Mr Dowd said Kiama Council invested $300,000 into the projects, and expressed his thanks for the strong funding support provided by the NSW Government.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW, Paul Toole said the project was made possible with a $1,195,588 grant from Round Two of the Stronger Country Communities Fund, which is helping to enrich the lives of people in regional NSW.
“These upgrades are exactly the kind of project the Stronger Country Communities Fund was designed to deliver, and the NSW Government is committed to creating a more inclusive environment for participation in sport and better local amenities.”
“The Stronger Country Communities Fund is delivering projects that benefit communities across the state, with work completed or underway on more than 1,500 projects in every local government area in regional NSW,” Mr Toole said.
