Hit-and-run victim dies in hospital

A 60-year-old scooter rider struck by a vehicle in Pakenham South on February 9 has sadly died overnight.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have today renewed their appeal for witnesses to the fatal crash.

Police located the unconscious man at the intersection of Healesville-Koo Wee Rup and Ballarto roads in Pakenham South just before 7pm on February 9.

“The 60-year-old Pakenham man was taken to hospital in a critical condition but sadly died overnight,” Victoria Police said today.

Police believe the scooter rider was travelling south on Koo Wee Rup Road when he was possibly struck by a yet to be identified vehicle that failed to stop at the scene.

“The exact circumstances around the incident are yet to be determined and police are seeking to speak to a man they believe may have witnessed the incident.”

Earlier this week detectives released footage of the vehicle they believe may have witnessed the incident – a white Toyota HiLux.

Police are appealing for the driver, anyone else who witnessed the collision, or anyone with dashcam footage or other information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
