High range drink driver caught

A 54-year-old man from Southern Tasmania has been charged with high range drink driving.

The man was detected on Saturday evening driving on Risdon Road in New Town by officers from Hobart Station, who say the man was already serving a period of disqualification for a prior drink driving offence.

After returning a reading of 0.198, the man had his disqualification extended by a further two years. He will appear in court at a later date.

Inspector Jim Semmens said the man had placed himself and the Tasmanian community at risk.

“For those drivers who might consider making poor drink driving choices – be aware all police vehicles on patrol can detect drink drivers – it’s not just traffic operations where you may be caught.”

“We will continue to run operations, we will continue to patrol our urban and rural roads. I’d like the community to know police are doing all we can to keep them safe.”

“If you’ve been drinking, don’t drive. It’s as simple as that,” Inspector Semmens said.
