Girls, 12 and 13, arrested over car theft

Townsville police have arrested two girls, aged 12 and 13, over the burglary of a home and the theft of a car overnight.

In a statement, Queensland Police said officers would continue to target recidivist offenders during Operation Sierra Silhouette in the Townsville district.

The two girls, aged 12 and 13, were arrested this morning in relation to an alleged burglary in Annandale overnight and the theft of a white Hyundai Accent.

It is alleged around 6.30am, the Hyundai was driven dangerously at speed in Heatley and Vincent, including in parklands and on footpaths before colliding with a parked car in Kirwan. The Hyundai was later located in Heatley.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
