Girl crashes stolen car into police vehicle

An unlicensed 17-year-old girl has been charged after the alleged stolen car she was driving crashed into a police vehicle in Upper Coomera today.

Police say officers observed a stolen Holden Commodore ute travelling northbound on the Gold Coast Highway, Surfers Paradise at around 10am.

“Police, including Polair, monitored and tracked the vehicle,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“Around 10.30am police observed the car as it turned into Stacer Street, Upper Coomera. Two police cars turned into the street shortly after.

“It will be alleged the Labrador girl driving the vehicle then performed a U-turn before colliding head on with an unmarked police car.”

A male senior constable who was a passenger in the vehicle was transported to hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the girl was taken into custody without incident and charged with one count of unlawful use of motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, possessing dangerous drugs and driving without a licence.

The Holden Commodore was allegedly stolen from a Tugun address overnight between November 30 and December 1.

The girl is due to appear before the Southport Children’s Court.
