Gilgandra celebrates seniors with special luncheon

Gilgandra will host a NSW Seniors Festival luncheon next week as the annual celebration of seniors wraps up for another year.

Mayor Doug Batten said the luncheon was a highlight of Gilgandra’s annual activities held to celebrate the town’s wonderful seniors in the community and the significant contribution they make.

“Seniors Festival encourages our senior citizens to take part in the various local activities and particularly invites any new residents to our community to join us for the luncheon,” Mayor Batten said.

“It is a great way for local seniors to catch up with friendly familiar faces and perhaps meet someone new to our community all while enjoying local entertainment and a lunch prepared by our local High School students,” he said.

“We also look forward to celebrating the achievements of our Senior Citizen of the Year nominees and overall winner”.

Join other seniors on the day for a relaxed and enjoyable gathering, with the day commencing with morning tea at 10am and a time to catch up with friends. This is followed by the focal point of the day – the announcement of Gilgandra’s Senior Citizen of the Year and award presentation.

Entertainment will be provided by local favourite talent, with the Gilgandra High School hospitality students preparing and serving the meal. Attendees will also be in with a great chance to take home a small prize through the lucky placemat draws, which are supported by the generosity of many Gilgandra Region businesses.

The Seniors Festival luncheon will be held from 10am on Monday, April 26 and is a free event, provided by Gilgandra Shire Council at Gilgandra Shire Hall with the support of local volunteers.

All local seniors are warmly invited to be part of the luncheon and to please RSVP to the Library staff on 6817 8877 or library@gilgandra.nsw.gov.au
