Queensland Police have arrested four teens in relation to the alleged assault of an off-duty police officer at Parkwood in the early hours of Saturday morning.
It will be alleged that the 39-year-old Senior Constable had finished his shift and was travelling home on a tram at around 12.15am, when he observed a girl verbally abusing transit staff.
“The officer identified himself and attempted to de-escalate the situation, when the girl and three boys allegedly assaulted him,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
“The officer exited the tram at the next stop, Parkwood East, and contacted on-duty police. Officers stopped the tram at Parkwood, where they located four teenagers.”
A 15-year-old Oxenford girl, a 16-year-old Slacks Creek boy, a 17-year-old New Beith boy and a 15-year-old Yarrabilba boy were detained on the tram.
The off-duty officer sustained bruising and scratches in the incident.
“A 15-year-old Oxenford girl has now been charged with one count of serious assault police officer,” Police said.
She is scheduled to appear at the Southport Childrens Court on 18 June.
The 16-year-old Slacks Creek boy and 17-year-old New Beith boy will both be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or may have mobile phone footage, to come forward as Detectives continue to conduct enquiries.
