Australian Red Cross has today announced the appointment of former Australian Federal Police commissioner, Andrew Colvin AO APM, as the organisation’s new CEO.
President Charles Burkitt said he and the Australian Red Cross board were looking forward to welcoming Mr Colvin (pictured) to the organisation.
“Mr Colvin’s proven leadership and deep understanding of crisis management will be invaluable as we continue to respond to the evolving needs of communities across Australia and beyond. His clear dedication to public service also aligns perfectly with our mission to alleviate human suffering and build resilient communities,” he said.
“His leadership and significant stakeholder engagement will help us navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead, ensuring Australian Red Cross remains a well trusted and responsive humanitarian organisation.”
In accepting the role of CEO, Mr Colvin said he was honoured to join Australian Red Cross.
“I look forward to working with Australian Red Cross’ dedicated members, volunteers, and staff alongside our corporate and government partners to further enhance the organisation’s effective response to emergencies, in building resilient communities and supporting those in need,” he said.
Mr Burkitt also extended his gratitude to Australian Red Cross Interim CEO, Penny Harrison, for her exceptional leadership during the transition period. He also noted Ms Harrison’s continued role on the organisation’s executive structure.
Mr Colvin will be based in Canberra and commence as Australian Red Cross Chief Executive Officer on 1 July.
