Two men in their 60s are among five people charged after taking part in an unauthorised protest on the state’s South Coast.
Police say officers were called to the office of Bega Liberal MP, Andrew Constance (pictured) in Carp Street, Bega, yesterday morning following reports of protest activity.
“Officers attached to South Coast Police District attended and located two men and a woman on roof of the building, while a third man had allegedly superglued his hand to the front door of the office,” NSW Police said in a statement.
A group of other protestors in attendance were given move on directions.
“A 60-year-old Bega man was arrested and taken to Bega Police Station where he was issued an infringement for failing to comply with a move on direction.”
“A 63-year-old man from Tarraganda had his hand released from front door, before he was arrested and taken to Bega Police Station.
“He has been charged with malicious damage, resist arrest, refuse/fail to comply with direction, use intimidation/violence to unlawfully influence a person, and wilfully prevent free passage of a person/vehicle.“
He was refused bail to appear in Batemans Bay Local Court today.
“About 12.45pm, a 53-year-old woman was taken down from the roof and arrested,” NSW Police said.
She was taken to Bega Police Station where she was charged with use intimidation/violence to unlawfully influence a person, enter enclosed land without lawful excuse, refuse/fail to comply with direction, and risk safety of another by climbing onto a building/structure.
She has been granted conditional bail to appear in Bega Local Court later this month.
About 1.20pm, the two men – aged 21 and 28 – were removed from the roof; arrested and taken to Bega Police Station.
The younger man has since been charged with use intimidation/violence to unlawfully influence a person, enter enclosed land without lawful excuse, refuse/fail to comply with direction, risk safety of another by climbing onto a building/structure, and wilfully obstruct officer in execution of duty.
Police say charges are expected to be laid against the 28-year-old man.
