Female officer repeatedly punched by man

A man appeared in court today, charged after allegedly assaulting a 47-year-old female police officer on the Central Coast this morning.

Police say that at about 5am, officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District attended Walu Avenue, Halekulani, after reports an unknown male was yelling loudly and and threatening residents.

After patrolling the area, police observed the man enter his own home.

Shortly after, around 7am, officers returned to the street after reports the man was again threatening residents.

Two officers spoke to the man and say he became aggressive and punched the female senior constable in the head multiple times.

He was restrained before he then allegedly lunged at the senior constable again.

The man allegedly continued to punch and knee the officer in the head before he was restrained and arrested.

The senior constable sustained facial lacerations and was treated at the scene before being taken to Wyong Hospital for further treatment.

The 28-year-old man was taken to Wyong Police Station where he was charged with offences relating to the alleged assault.
