Driver killed in single vehicle crash

A man has died in a single vehicle crash 15 kilometres from Yarralin in the Victoria River District overnight.

Police say that just after 10pm last night, officers attended the crash site and found the male driver of the vehicle deceased.

“A male was deceased at the scene. The two other occupants were airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital by Careflight, one suffering critical injuries,” Northern Territory Police said in a statement.

Detectives from the Territory Major Crash Investigation Unit have travelled to the scene today and are investigating.

“While we don’t know the cause of this crash yet, we are asking drivers to take extra care on the Territory’s roads – nobody should spend Christmas mourning the loss of a loved one,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner.

Anyone with information about the crash or who are familiar with those involved who may be able to assist the investigation is urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Please quote reference number 9492670.
