Police are investigating a fatal crash between a semi-trailer and a B-double that killed a 64-year-old man at Stuart last night.
Preliminary investigations suggest the two vehicles collided on the Bruce Highway around 10.10pm, causing the B-double to roll down an embankment just north of the Townsville crematorium.
The driver of the B-double, a 64-year-old Gulliver man, sustained significant injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The 61-year-old male driver of the semi-trailer was transported to Townsville University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Bruce Highway remains closed in both directions whilst an operation remains underway to repair damage to the road and remove extensive debris. Police say diversions will be in place for some time.
