Dozens of schools receive threatening emails

NSW Police has launched an investigation into the origins of threatening emails which disrupted dozens of Sydney high schools today.

Police say that shortly before 11am today, a high school on Sydney’s Lower North Shore received an anonymous email, making threats toward the school.

Since that time, at least another 18 high schools across Sydney have received similar threatening emails.

The schools enacted their emergency response plans and contacted police.

Local officers are being assisted by specialist officers to conduct extensive searches at each of the schools, but no items of interest have been located at this time.

Police are working with the Department of Education to ensure school communities are informed of all necessary information for parents of affected schools.

Initial inquiries suggest the threats are linked and detectives from the Cybercrime Squad will lead the investigation into the circumstances and origins of the emails.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
