A disqualified driver allegedly caught driving with more than seven times the legal limit of alcohol in his system will face court today.
Police say that at around 3.30pm on Sunday, a white Holden Commodore was travelling through the car park of a shopping complex on Leisure Drive, Banora Point, near Tweed Heads, when it allegedly collided with a Toyota hatchback.
Nobody was injured in the collision.
“Police were called and officers from Tweed/Byron Police District attended a short time later and spoke with the driver of the Holden, a 45-year-old man,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“He was subject to a roadside breath test which returned a positive result.”
The man was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station for a breath analysis, which returned a reading of 0.359 – more than seven times the legal limit.
“Police inquiries identified the man was previously the holder of a NSW driver’s licence and was disqualified from driving until 2024 due to high range PCA offences,” NSW Police said.
“The man was also in possession of a Queensland driver’s licence that police will allege was illegally obtained.”
He was charged with drive with high range PCA, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period and not mention disqualification in licence application.
The man was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local court today.
