Deceased cyclist identified as Wollongong man, 79

A cyclist who died in Wollongong earlier this month has now been identified, NSW Police said today.

At around 12.15pm on Thursday, July 7th, emergency services were called to Stuart Park in Wollongong, after reports that a cyclist had been found lying on the ground alongside his bike (pictured).

“Officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics, who treated a man who is believed to have suffered a medical episode while riding a bicycle,” NSW Police said.

Despite their efforts, the man died at the scene.

Initial inquiries failed to identify the man as he wasn’t carrying any identification.

Following a public appeal for information, and assistance provided by forensic and facial recognition specialists, the man has been identified as a 79-year-old local.

The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
