Caught by the long nose of the law

A 55-year-old Braybrook man has been arrested after police located and seized more than 40kg of suspected cannabis after intercepting a car in Ararat late last night.

Uniformed officers say they noticed a dark coloured BMW acting suspiciously in the vicinity of a fast food store, at the corner of High and Collings streets, about 11.45pm on Monday night.

Police pulled the car over on High Street near Vincent Street before a strong aroma of suspected cannabis was noticed coming from the vehicle.

During a search of the car officers located three garbage bags full of suspected cannabis in vacuum sealed packages.

It is believed the street value of the cannabis is in excess of $800,000.

A 55-year-old Braybrook man and a man from Sunshine North were both arrested and are currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The two Vietnamese nationals are expected to appear in court today to face charges including traffick a commercial quantity of drugs and possess cannabis.
