Carers Victoria announces new collaboration for care

Carers Victoria has teamed up with CareAbout, an organisation which specialises in helping families find the right aged care services for their older relatives.

The collaboration aims to provide caregivers with the necessary resources and expert assistance to navigate the aged care process successfully, Carers Victoria said today.

“Watching a parent or a loved one grow frail and struggle with everyday tasks can be a difficult and emotional experience. As unpaid carers, the responsibility of finding suitable aged care options for our loved ones adds another layer of complexity to an already challenging situation. Often, we find ourselves overwhelmed and uncertain about where to begin or what the best course of action might be,” the organisation said in a statement.

It says CareAbout’s expertise in aged care services enables them to assist families in identifying the most suitable care options for their loved ones. Whether the preference is to receive care in the comfort of their own home, enabling them to maintain their independence, or to transition to residential care, CareAbout is equipped with the knowledge and experience to guide unpaid carers through the entire process.

One of the significant government initiatives that CareAbout can assist with is the Home Care Package Program, which provides much-needed support to eligible individuals. This program is designed to offer financial assistance to seniors who require support and care to continue living safely at home. CareAbout’s Home Care Calculator also allows unpaid carers to estimate the amount their loved one could receive through this program, ensuring they are aware of the available financial resources to aid in decision-making.

To make the process even more accessible, CareAbout offers a free guide to home care. This comprehensive resource addresses common questions and concerns that unpaid carers might have about home care services. It serves as a roadmap, directing unpaid carers to the right solutions for their specific situation.

Judith Abbott, CEO, Carers Victoria says, “The partnership between Carers Victoria and CareAbout is a testament to our commitment to supporting unpaid carers and their loved ones during challenging times.”

“By combining Carers Victoria’s extensive experience in providing care and support to carers with CareAbout’s expertise in aged care services, this collaboration creates a powerful platform for unpaid carers to find the best possible care options for their aging relatives.

“CareAbout’s compassionate and knowledgeable team understands the unique needs of each family and recognises that no two caregiving journeys are the same. With this understanding, they offer personalised assistance, tailored to the specific requirements of the older person and their family.”

As Kylie Magrath, CEO, CareAbout explains, “CareAbout and Carers Victoria share a commitment to helping older Australians access the quality care they deserve to live safely in their own homes for as long as possible. Our organisations acknowledge that caring is a shared responsibility of family, community and government and want to ensure carers are well supported by connecting them with the right information, advice, quality services and supports.”

“As Australia’s senior population continues to grow, the demand for aged care services is increasing, making it essential for unpaid carers and those who need care, to have access to reliable resources and guidance. Carers Victoria and CareAbout’s partnership provides a vital lifeline for carers and older Australian’s seeking support in this important stage of life.”
